“Done is better than perfect.”
Perfect is an ideal that only exists in the mind.
Done is so much better than perfect.
Like Betty Crocker™ Fudge Brownie Mix, or any brownie really.
I am just confessing that growing up, my family and I made boxed brownies and sometimes the center was still a little gooey in the middle because it was not “perfectly” done, but I still ate that brownie!
For the rest of this blog I might keep writing about brownies, but feel free to see brownies as a metaphor for something else in your life.
When these brownies are DONE and you finally get to say “Finally!” there is a feeling of relief.
When you are trying to be perfect all the time, you spend too much time in your head and not enough time putting words on the page.
(For me, the brownie is writing.)
As a Tier II Technical Instructor at Per Scholas, certified in a bunch of different technologies, I never know if these names and faces on Zoom are actually listening to me talk about something educational.
Sometimes folks do not respond because they are thinking. Sometimes the vibe is just tired.
Ask me or any teacher (or parent) in your life: the day will never go perfectly.
You are mortal, do not forget this. This world has racism, sexism, wealth inequality, climate change.
I never met a perfect person in my life, although I have been mistaken multiple times.
I have never read a perfect book, seen a perfect movie, or read a perfect blog.
So do not strive for the unattainable and make yourself miserable.
Done is way better than perfect.
End of story.
