In his memoir Who Is Michael Ovitz? (2018), the former Hollywood super agent writes about seeing the movie Last of the Mohicans. He surprised the director, Michael Mann, by correctly guessing that Mann was inspired by the nineteenth-century American landscape paintings of Albert Bierstadt.

As I was reading, I got a call from my friend. She said she was thinking about shaving her head.

Which to me was kind of a serious thing to say! But she was joking about it.

Growing up, she said she was mocked for her hair. She remembered Anne Hathaway’s character in The Princess Diaries, how she was also mocked for her hair.

My friend’s mother never taught her about hair. She had to teach herself through magazines, or YouTube, or Facebook and Instagram.

She said she would love to see a movie with a woman who is considering shaving her head.

So now we are talking about a female character who wants to shave her head.

My friend gets excited at the idea of a montage, where this character gets to try on multiple wigs, and models them in a mirror.

I then remembered the memoir and told my friend what I was reading, and said if a movie director like Michael Mann can be inspired by paintings for his movie.

I tell my friend she can also probably also find paintings of bald ladies to inspire her work.
