Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
“Life is long enough, and it has been given in sufficiently generous measure to allow the accomplishment of the very greatest things if the whole of it is well invested… the life we receive is not short, nor do we have any lack of it, but are wasteful of it.”
-On the shortness of life by Seneca, translated by John W. Basore
You are in complete control over how consistent you are in sticking to your desired behaviors.
People in your group chats want you to play video games, or watch funny videos.
But you owe it to yourself to first do what will benefit you long term.
There is a workout you are putting off. An online course you are putting off. A book you meant to read that is now gathering dust.
You cannot control the mountain of snow coming this weekend to New Jersey.
Or a pandemic.
You cannot control what others say or do.
You cannot control the inevitability of aging, death, or disease. Neither could The Buddha.
But you can control your smoking, your drinking, your eating, and how much you exercise.
Technology, in all its forms, is designed to make you lazy. It is up to you to not become lazy.
You have a job to do.
As Ben Franklin put it, “don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”
ACTION POINT: Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
