live religiously
earn money and save

keep life-saving, first aid medicine in domestic stock
act upon the advice of the teacher
In September 2013, I watched Hostages (American TV series) premiere with Quinn Shephard from Metuchen High on CBS.
I remember it because Quinn was in Arts High School with Neal Bennett at Middlesex County College.
And a bunch of other high school kids from New Jersey counties, for whom YouTube, or cinema, or TV, is the new church, between 2010 and 2014.
Getting bussed once a week on Tuesdays to learn from Neal.
Quinn’s feature Not Okay (2022) is now on Hulu.
I still remember when she and Neal were talking Blame (2017).
I got to work with Neal at Rutgers New Brunswick later, teaching filmmaking to high schoolers.
Now he is Professor Bennett! Me, at Per Scholas, teaching AWS? Sure, I’m now “Professor Malik.”
When I interned for Tom Ashley, CEO of Invincible, those life lessons with Neal at Rutgers came in handy when I guided Teva executives in making short movies as a team building exercise.
Neal took this, 10 years ago! Boss Ross let me “cut class” for this!
Like Boss Ross, the principal at Edison High, I learned a great deal from Professor Bennett, like Avid Media Composer, video editing.
How Apple messed up a lot of his production workflows from Final Cut 7 to Final Cut X. Legendary editor and author Walter Murch in 2015 (Vimeo), David Leitner in FilmmakerMagazine, reacted negatively to the changes.
At Temple, everyone started using Adobe Creative Cloud. The Avid training still helped me with those lessons Dede Maitre lead.
Now? I use anything the project requires, to be honest.
Editing is a technical artform, regardless of the tool.
It could be digital nonlinear editing (NLE) software like Avid or FCPX or Adobe Premiere, shot on any camera, if the writing and performance is simply not there, what’s the point of watching?
Or a website. I made this on Squarespace, but I could have used AWS or Wix or any builder. The “content” or “form” is up to me.
Reader, regardless of the movie we are “shooting” or “preparing to shoot,” Chanakya’s plan is still sound.
